Meet the Physics Staff

Marcus Gibbs - Head of Physics

Marcus joined RHS and Head of Physics  in September 2016. He has taught physics for many years in a variety of schools.

Before teaching, Marcus worked in academia. After a PhD in the properties of superfluid helium, he worked in labs in many countries where he investigated materials at very low temperatures. He has also spent time in Romania where he taught in a school for the deaf.

A keen sailor, Marcus enjoys dingy sailing both in and out of school. Marcus also enjoys music and has a wide and varied experience playing double bass in various jazz bands and orchestras. He delights in spending time with his family.

Maria Warren

Maria joined RHS in 2005 as cover for a colleague on sick leave. Maria had recently retired from St Joseph’s College where she had been Head of Department. 

She graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Physics and Mathematics. 

Maria enjoys travel and keeping up with the adventures of her grandchildren.

Gemma Tachauer

Gemma joined RHS in 2010, having previously worked in two other schools. 

Prior to teaching she trained and worked as a therapeutic radiographer at the Ipswich Hospital. Her degree is a BSc in Oncology and Radiotherapy Technology.

 Gemma's interests include films, travel, photography, astronomy and music, she also plays the alto saxophone in the school band.

Tracylyn Stinson

Ms. Stinson joined RHS in 2016 having taught in a variety of schools, holding a variety of roles. She graduated with a Sandwich degree in physics.

Mark Edmonson

Mark joined RHS in September 2016 after qualifying as a physics teacher in Tendring Technology College.

He served for 25 years in the Royal Navy predominantly in submarines before ending his career at the Ministry of Defence in London. On leaving the RN he decided on a career in teaching and completed the 'Troops to Teachers' course.

Mark is willing to try out any sport but particularly enjoys all disciplines of cycling, especially endurance mountain biking. He also enjoys spending time with his family.
